There's something about cherry wood that stops you in your tracks. That warm, reddish glow. The grain that seems to shift and shimmer in the light. At Treeboard, our cherry cutting boards are some of the most striking pieces we've ever made, and they just keep getting more beautiful over time.
Every solid cherry cutting board in our collection is shaped from a single slab of North American black cherry. No glue. No lamination. No particle board or petroleum-based finishes. Just pure, natural hardwood, the way it grew.
Why Cherry Wood?
Cherry is unique among North American hardwoods. It has a personality all its own, and the kitchen is where it really comes alive. A cherry wood cutting board offers a few things you won't find anywhere else:
- A living finish. Cherry deepens and reddens naturally with exposure to ambient light. Set one of our boards on your counter and within weeks, you'll notice it shifting toward a rich crimson. No stain needed. Just sunlight and time.
- Knife-friendly hardness. Cherry is softer than our white oak and hard maple boards, which makes it ideal if you maintain hand-sharpened edges on your kitchen knives. The wood absorbs cuts gracefully without dulling your blade as quickly.
- Showstopping character. Our lumber supplier has set aside some truly special stock for us, including "gummy" cherry with rustic, dark streaks of natural hardened resin and "curly" cherry with wavy grain that displays a chatoyant shimmer as you move around it. Every single board is one of a kind.
More Than a Cutting Board
Sure, our cherry cutting boards are built to work, but honestly, a lot of customers use them just as much for serving. A cherry wood cutting board makes a gorgeous backdrop for charcuterie, cheeses, appetizers, or fresh bread straight from the oven. It's the kind of piece that guests notice and ask about.
We currently offer our cherry line in small, medium, and large sizes. If you have a preference for gummy or curly grain, just let us know in the order notes when you check out, and we'll do our best to match you with the right slab.
Pure Wood, Nothing Else
Every cherry end-grain cutting board or serving board you'll find from other makers is typically assembled from glued-up strips of wood. Ours are different. Each Treeboard is a single, solid piece of hardwood, no seams, no adhesives, no synthetic coatings. We finish them with our own all-natural board balm made from linseed oil and carnauba wax. That's it.
This matters because your cutting board touches your food. We believe what goes on your board should be as clean as what goes on your plate.
Care & Keeping
Cherry is a rewarding wood to own. A little care goes a long way. Apply our board balm whenever the surface starts looking dry or when water stops beading on the surface. Over time, the wood's outer layers become impregnated with oil, building a natural barrier that makes maintenance easier and less frequent. Avoid soaking your board or using baking soda, which can darken the wood. Full care instructions are included with every order. If you've never owned a cutting board in cherry wood before, you'll be surprised by how forgiving and low-maintenance it really is.
