Treeboard's founder Will Mauldin fell in love with trees and wooden objects in his early childhood.

For years he worked as a journalist, mainly at The Wall Street Journal in Washington and Moscow. After a family tragedy struck in 2019, Will returned to his love of nature and began cutting up an already-fallen oak tree near his family's house in Maryland, launching a hobby and side job. He discovered that natural, solid slabs of hardwood can make beautiful coffee tables, cutting boards and other products, with only a limited role for humans or machinery. The new venture Treeboard eschewed particle board, plywood and laminated strips of woodwhich they also contain glue and petroleum products.

Since then, Treeboard has been to making pure wooden products for your kitchen and home, while helping preserve North American forests. Will left journalism in 2024 to work on Treeboard and his other pursuits full time.

Alberto is a professional carpenter who serves as Treeboard's woodworker. Educated in Maryland, Alberto has worked in the Mid-Atlantic region for two decades on a variety of hands-on jobs, most recently serving as a lead carpenter for a high-end contractor in the Washington area. Alberto has a wide knowledge of North American woods and a knack for solving problems related to Treeboard's products and workshop efficiency. When he's not on the clock, you'll find him or making wooden gifts for family members or fishing on the Chesapeake and its tributaries.

Treeboard is also indebted to Clinton, our previous woodworker who helped built the company from a basement experiment to a successful business.
